comprehensive clinical counselling services

with a specialty in grief

Welcome to my practice.

My name is Jen Bieber. I am an experienced and licensed therapist registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). I am currently offering online services in Ontario and the Yukon. I work with individuals to strengthen relationships to the self and to others, to support healing past and present, and to process grief in order to cultivate ways of being that are satisfying and fulfilling. I have experience working with individuals of a variety of ages (14 +), genders, cultural identities, abilities, and varying experiences with therapy.

I currently work and dream on the traditional territories of the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in, as well as the Anishinaabe, Chippewa, Haudenosaunee, Mississaugas of the Credit, and Wendat peoples.

Approach/Areas of Focus

In our work together, we will explore what you desire from life, from relationships. This will be our guide in the therapeutic process. I believe that with practice, we can learn to embody ways of being that are in line with our values, our goals, and our hopes. Through integrating new skills and expanding on those already utilized, we can learn to effectively cope with life’s challenges, moving from merely surviving towards thriving in ways that reflect our unique strengths and abilities.

Areas that we can do this work together include: aging, anger management, anxiety, boundary setting, codependency, coping skills, decision making, depression, grief and loss, gender, 2SLGBTQA+ identity and belonging, relationships, self-esteem, self-harm, substance use, suicidal ideation, stress management, intergenerational trauma, sexual trauma, relational trauma, and PTSD.

Modalities

I integrate various approaches into my practice, with training and experience in Narrative Therapy, Queer Theory, Feminist Theory, Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Grief Therapy

I am passionate about accompanying individuals through their grief, in whatever form that takes.

This includes both death related and non-death related grief. Some examples of this include the end of an important relationship, the death of someone close or far, the death of a pet, grieving what could have been and never was, big life changes, changes in ability, injuries, changes in family relationships, separation/divorce, friendship break-ups, changes in employment, childhood losses, trauma.

I have witnessed that with practice and intention, we can learn how to walk alongside our grief, living and thriving in harmony with this natural, albeit painful, part of being human. I believe that, with time, grief can become our ally, a way to learn about how we love.

I believe in celebrating, elevating, and honouring the things that make our experiences unique, and I endeavour to support you in a way that reflects the knowledge and values you will bring to our work together.
